Having just arrived in a new country, Quyen attempts to adapt to her unfamiliar surroundings as gracefully as she can. Her first week of marriage has been stressful; her husband seems kind but is not at all what she imagined and her mother-in-law has only criticism to give. A visit from a childhood friend provides momentary respite and introduces Quyen to other options for life in this foreign country. Quyen is a peek into the modern manifestations of the tradition of arranged marriage and of migration in search of opportunity. It is an honest examination of the choices we make for family, for survival, and for happiness.
